February Computer Club Meeting

The next BGCC Computer Club meeting will be next Tuesday Feb 18 from 7:30PM until 9:00PM in the Middle Room at our Rec Centre.  Planned topics include:

1.   Fifteen months ago, the new Rogers Ignite TV offering was presented to the Club members and the result was that a significant number of BGCC residents have switched to it.  Over that time, a number of new features have been added and pricing of the Ignite bundle has also changed.  It is time to update attendees about the current offering and demo some of the newer features.  The current Rogers service pricing will also be discussed so you can compare it to your Rogers or Bell monthly bill.  Bring a copy of your current invoice for comparison as some residents have saved over $100 per month!

2.   Did you know that you can turn your smart phone into a temporary mobile WIFI hotspot?   Better known as mobile tethering, this can be an extremely useful and convenient feature, particularly when access to regular broadband internet for your laptop, iPad and other devices is simply not available.  Let’s first walk through how to set this up, for those who are less familiar.   Then we can go over both the benefits and well as the drawbacks of using this feature.

3.   Perhaps it’s not all that surprising that many of us are still a bit foggy about how photos are handled across our Apple devices by services such as Apple’s iCloud Photo Library and My Photo Stream.   On the surface, these do seem like rather complicated concepts.   However, like most things, they do become much clearer with some thoughtful explanation and demonstration.   So do plan to attend this session where you can be guaranteed of that!

Please feel free to join us.  The BGCC Computer Club is open to all residents and their accompanied friends, and no membership is required.  A notepad and pencil is useful for taking notes and there is WiFi available in the room for all your devices.

C U on Tuesday!
