Most of the pictures are very small. How can I make them bigger?
Most photos can be enlarged just by clicking on them (tapping with a tablet). Often you can click a second time and they will get even larger still. Use your browser’s Back button to return to the original page.

Speaking of pictures, what is the best way to send you a photo?
Send it as an email attachment. Create a new email, then click on Attach or the Paperclip symbol. This will take you to a list of the photos on your computer. Select the one you want then Send. Note that emailing a photo from within a photo program (like Picasa) may take extra steps as these programs by default will shrink your photo down to a size that may be too small for using on a web page. Same goes for email programs that have a special Attach Photo button. Best to keep it simple.

How large a photo should I send?
The standard size of photos on this website is 1200×900 pixels which works out to be somewhere between 300 and 500 KB in size. This includes photos for Classifieds as well as the Photos page. Photos smaller than 800×600 may not include enough detail. On the other hand, some digital cameras now take photos with file sizes of 10 MB. If possible, please resize these down before emailing as HOTG’s Inbox can struggle with a lot of large photos. Photoshop is Not needed – the webmaster uses Windows Paint (included for free with most versions of Windows). Mac’s also include a similar feature.

Anything else about photos?
If you really want to help the webmaster out, you might want to rename your photo from Image0187 to something meaningful like Mountain Bike 2.

I have the perfect photo to go at the top of your page. Is there anything special I need to do?
In the jargon, this is called the Header photo. We have 6 to 8 photos in a random rotation. We would really like to have new ones at least 3 times a year. Unlike the former website, HOTG does not require a special size of photo, just basically landscape (wider than it is high). We also prefer photos of Ballantrae and the immediate vicinity. We can crop and re-size your photo, no problem. Credits for Header photos appear on the Credits page.
